Friends of the Lawrence Library Meeting Notes

NOVEMBER 13, 2003

The Meeting was called to order by Kris P. at 10:30 a.m. Ruth M. read the Meeting Minutes from the October 2003 meeting, and the Minutes were accepted as read.

Correspondence Report
Ruth distributed various items of mail, and mentioned that quite a few membership forms and checks came in during the month. Treasurer’s Report. Andrea C. indicated that the beginning balance was $8289.64. Total income was $2615.00, expenses were $706.26, bringing the ending balance to $10,198.38. The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as read.

Library Director’s Report
Ann P. reviewed progress regarding the new web site, and indicated that she’d be looking to form five teams of two people each to help test the new site. Ann also mentioned that the current site was down for about a week, but is now up and running again. Ann reminded the group of the Poetry Night coming up, and also that we need to get the extra boxes with books out of the back room and over to the Groton School for the Hands Across America Program. Kris and Ruth volunteered to transport the boxes.

Ann mentioned that Bob L. volunteered to be Santa for the Tree Lighting, if we have a need. Lucci B. agreed to call Bob to thank him and advise him that we’re all set with a Santa. The LaLeche League will be meeting monthly at the Library, starting during January. The American Library Association offered a Lifetime membership at a higher rate. We currently have a True Friends membership at $50/year.

Cheryl M. reviewed upcoming programs for the group. Membership. Kris read a report from Kathy L., who could not attend the meeting. Current membership is growing, currently at 109 vs. 39 at October’s meeting. Kathy is planning to do an “Old Friend’s” mailing during January, and also a letter to the editor in the Free Press. Sue M. suggested using the Messenger newspaper for promoting membership, in addition to the Times Free Press.

Web Site
Per Kathy’s report, the web site was down for awhile, but is working now. Kathy renewed the site for 6 months, in order to give the Library staff sufficient time to get the new site up and running.

Art Gallery
A report from Tina R. (not in attendance) indicated that the recent reception was well attended and that the exhibit will be up until 11/29/03. After 11/29, the gallery will be left open in order to decorate for the Christmas Tree Lighting event. The next reception will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2004. Lisa Marie P. volunteered to host the January reception.

Andrea C. received the OK to distribute the Clipboard to the North Middlesex Regional Schools.

Tree Lighting
Luci B. indicated that plans are falling into place. Beltronics will again provide the sound system at a cost of $375, and plans for Santa are set. Luci reviewed various details concerning the event, and there was extended discussion concerning plans. A signup sheet was passed around for helping with decorating and also during the event.

Ornament Making
Betsy K. sent around signup sheets for help with the event, to be held on Thursday, 12/4/03, from 4-5 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.

New Business
A message from Tina indicated that there will be a Pepperell Horse Field Day this coming Sunday, 11/16/03 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the town field. Kris asked everyone to review the refreshment list, as a reminder for bringing a snack to the Friends’ meetings. A brief discussion was held concerning plans for the holiday luncheon, and it was confirmed that we should invite the past presidents.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
